In this article you'll learn how to add and manage different transaction types in your portfolio. This feature will help you stay on top of your portfolio summary and all your investment holdings.
How to create a transaction
Go to the Investments tab at the top of the left hand menu and then chose your portfolio from the top list (if you have multiple funds, chose the one that you would like to display).
From there click the Celeste button at the bottom right corner and choose Transaction. You can also hover your mouse over the holding you would like to update and choose the Add Transaction option from the three-dot button menu that will appear at the far right. From here you will be prompted to the screen where you can create a new transaction. The transaction types are: Commitment, Investment and Distribution.
All transaction types can be shared with other groups or kept confidential and shared only with yourself. To see who the transaction is being shared with, click on the Share Settings option at the top right corner, or hover over the groups displayed next to it.
You can add commitments to any company profile, but they are usually most useful for fund investments or holdings where you want to track the subsequent capital calls and the progress of initial commitments. To create a new commitment, start by selecting the Transaction Type. Then, you can enter the date, the committed amount, and any additional details, such as a description or associated documents.
Similar to a commitment, you can select the transaction type as an investment. To add an investment, simply change the transaction type to 'investment.' In these transactions, you will have the option to include more information based on the instrument of the investment. The required information to create the transaction includes the Title, Instrument, Amount Invested, and Date. While other fields are optional, we strongly encourage you to provide as much information as possible. Please note that additional information displayed by the system is specific to each selected instrument type. You can also attach any relevant documentation to the transaction.
Note: To initiate a drawdown from a previous commitment, select the transaction type 'Fund Investment' and toggle 'Yes' for the 'Drawdown against Commitment' option.
Similar to commitments and investments, you can include distributions to indicate the return of capital from a specific holding. To add a distribution, change the transaction type to 'distribution.' These transactions will be reflected as distributed capital, and the total of all distributions will be added to the latest Fair Market Value of the holding, providing you with the Total Value of the holding. Just like other transaction types, you can provide additional details such as a description or attach related documents.
To access the Multi- Transaction Uploader, click on the three-dot button at the top right of the Investment Holdings table and select "Add Multiple Transactions". This will open a new window where you can create as many transactions as you need. Alternatively, you can easily copy and paste from an Excel file in the same format to add multiple transactions at once.
