Using the Clockwork Universe chat feature, you can communicate with other platform users, as well as with the Clockwork team. The chat feature in Universe allows you to initiate conversations centered around a specific topic (Company Update, a Holding, or a portfolio), with the added benefit of keeping all related information stored and readily accessible where you need it.

The Chat Tab

To access your Chats click on the Chat tab at the bottom of the left hand menu.

Start a new chat from this menu by clicking the blue button in the center of the page. This action will open a new window where you can select the participants you'd like to include in your chat and optionally choose the chat's topic.

Once you have selected your participants, the pop-up window will disappear, leaving you in the chat interface. At the bottom of this window, you will find the chat text bar, where you can begin typing.

Your chats will be saved on the left-hand side of the screen, allowing you to access them and switch between active chats. Additionally, you can create new chats by clicking the plus sign at the bottom of the chats displayed. You can also use the magnifying glass to search for keywords or topics within your existing chats.

On the right corner, you can pin your chat, switch to full-screen mode, or click on the three-dot button to add more participants and mute your chats.

In your Chat list, conversations related to a topic will appear with the logo of the portfolio or company, while conversations with another user will display their profile picture in the system. You can also use the search feature to swiftly navigate to messages within conversations or to filter your existing chats by participants.

Topics

Aside from being able to generate chats in the Chat tab, you can also create and consult existing chats from any update or portfolio, as shown below.

Start a chat from an Update

To start a new chat related to an update, navigate to the specific update you wish to reference and click on the Chat tab in the top menu. This will display all the chats associated with that update as the topic. To initiate a new chat with the same update as the topic, simply click the + New Chat button on the far right.

When you click the + New Chat button, a chat screen will appear, allowing you to select participants and create the new chat.

These conversations will simply create a new chat, which can be accessed through the Chats tab, like all other conversations.

Start a chat from a Portfolio

Similar to updates, Portfolios also have a dedicated Chat section. Here you will be able to see all chats that have been created with that portfolio as the topic, and even create new conversations around that portfolio.

To create a new conversation, click on the + New Chat button at the top right of the Chat section in any given portfolio.

Chat Features

The chats in Clockwork Universe work similarly to most chats, with some added benefits. In this section, we will go over the different features and peculiarities of our chat interface.

Add new participants

When you are in a chat, you can choose to add more people to the conversation by clicking on the three-dot button at the top right of the screen. Select the 'Add Participants' option, and the following pop-up screen will appear.

Here, you can add as many other users as you want to be included as new members in the conversation. Use the selector to choose whether to share the chat history with them or not.

Links to Holdings or Updates

You can add topics to an existing conversation by copying and pasting the update or holding URL link. For updates, you can find the link by copying and pasting the text from the URL bar while in the update or by clicking the 'Copy Link' button within any published updates. For holdings, simply go to the holding page and copy the text from the URL bar.

Once you send a holding or update link, the system will detect it and ask you if you want to create a new conversation around that topic. Click 'Create new discussion' to move the conversation to a new chat centered on that new topic.

Once you create a new discussion, you can choose to keep the same participants or add new members. Additionally, you can add a title to the new conversation for clarity.

Threads and Reactions

You can initiate secondary conversations related to a message by creating a new thread underneath that message. To start a new thread, simply click on the message bubble icon located at the top right of any message.

This action will open a new sidebar chat, allowing you to reply to the original message in a separate thread. Threads are visible to all members of the conversation.

Alternatively, you can click on the emoji button located in the top right corner of any message to send a reaction, as shown below.

Using the Search Feature

You can open the search bar by clicking on the magnifying glass icon at the bottom of your list of conversations. You can search by keywords in a specific message, participants in a conversation, or chats. The system will search through your opened chats and highlight the keywords in all of the messages containing them.

You can also search by participant, and the system will show you all active conversations with the members you are searching for.

The chat feature is a great way to navigate quickly between your active conversations.

Archive, mute or leave conversations

You can archive conversations by clicking on the three-dot button located at the top-right corner of your open conversation. This action will hide the chat from your list of conversations and also from the topic page of the conversation (Update or Holding Page). In this menu, you can also choose to mute the chat to stop receiving notifications or simply leave the chat to stop receiving notifications and remove it completely from your chat list.

To make the chat visible again after archiving, you need to unarchive it by navigating to the 'Archived' section at the bottom of your conversation list and clicking on the three-dot button at the top right of the archived conversation, as shown below.

You now have the knowledge to make the most out of our chat platform. Don't hesitate to explore and start meaningful conversations with ease. If you ever need assistance or have questions, our support team is just a message away.
